  1. Hello,

*warning this got way longer than I anticipated. TLDR is: first look to yourself before blaming teammates or the system for your placement.*

I just finished listening to your latest episode where you discuss being trapped by your MMR because there was no hard reset done by blizzard. I really like your show but have to tell you that MMR hell isn’t a thing and the reason you are probably stuck at the place you are is because that is where you belong.

In this game, the only common factor in all your games is you as a player. Yes you could get stuck with a teammate(s) that are a drag but the other team has that possibility too. In fact, it is more likely they do because your team only has four open slots and they have five (you automatically occupy a team slot). Over enough games, these odds balance out leaving the only constant factor as you. So if you are going down or staying where you are or not going up as fast as you would like, that blame is on you not necessarily the systems in place. Several players have shown on the forums that they took a low MMR account and brought it up to top rank. It can be a grind because we are talking about rates over a large number of matches but it does happen. If you win 51% of your games, you will move up over time and you will increase your MMR with the soft reset helping.

The perception of MMR hell comes from having game knowledge that surpasses your ability to execute. You all watch streams, pro players, read about the game and there for know a lot of information about playing. However, in actual games, you can not properly execute on that knowledge and play as a team to win. It doesn’t matter if you know you should grab mercs at a certain point of you fail to see that your team cannot do a more complex strat like that. You should have encouraged a simpler plan that could be achieved. Or for another example, you know your character should be playing with certain talents to get max dps but don’t understand the strength of the person playing your support and should actually be taking sustain talents or play more conservatively. Part of the skill of this very team based game is learning to quickly and effectively play with the team you have not just expect them to play to your perceived level of knowledge. Also, consider how often you make mistakes in games and don’t realize it. There can be many games in the past where better players carried you but you didn’t see all the errors you made that dragged them down. Now those players are Masters while you settled back down to your rank.

Finally, a hard MMR reset will not probably solve the problems you are having. It will cause grandmasters to have to play and grind up against/with bronze players and have the lower league players deal with stomps and carriers form more skilled players, which would likely land us right back where we are now but a lot more frustration on all sides. The soft reset lets you raise your MMR over time based on your more resent games (the games that reflect what kind of player you are now). So, if you are really are that good and deserve a higher MMR/rank, you as the only consistent factor in all your games will go up faster now with the soft reset.

I am sorry if this came off as a rant. The system for this Heroes is far from perfect and could be improved a lot but it is always useful to look at yourself first and accept responsibility for where you are at before blaming external factors.

Thanks all and love the show,

    Dan K

      Thanks Dan, for your post.
We get this response a lot.
I.E. You’re knowledge exceeds your execution.
It’s not he game, it’s you, etc.
I think those are really valid points. I really do. However, what is often lost in the discussion is that without the MMR re-set ever taking place EVER you can never eliminate the MMR as a source of some players frustrations about the game.
