The Wait is over and Reddit was right. Dehaka has been revealed as the NEWEST Hero for Heroes of the Storm, and, Boy, is he an interesting Hero to Say the least! He is being billed as a Melee Warrior, but what truly sets this Melee Warrior apart from the other Warrior Heroes is his incredible Mobility throughout the map. Map Presence will be a big advantage for Dehaka! How about we take a look a the Kit!
- Brushstalker (Z)
You cannot use Mounts. Instead, you may burrow to any bush or vent on the Battleground. 40 second cooldown
- Essence Collection (D)
You collect 10 Essence per Hero Takedown, and 2 per enemy Minion killed nearby, storing up to a maximum of 50 Essence. Activate to consume all stored Essence and regenerate Health over the next 5 seconds for each stack consumed. Can be cast during Drag and Burrow.
- Drag (Q)
Lash out with your tongue, dealing light damage to the first enemy hit, and dragging them with you for 1.75 seconds.
- Dark Swarm (W)
Over the next three seconds, you gain the ability to move through units and deal damage in an area around yourself. Deals double damage to Heroes. Can be cast during Drag and Burrow.
- Burrow (E)
Burrow into the ground, entering Stasis and becoming Invulnerable for 2 seconds.
- Isolation (R)
Launch biomass that deals damage, silences, and slows the first enemy Hero it hits by 30% for 3 seconds. For the next 6 seconds, the affected enemy loses sight of allied Heroes, and has greatly reduced vision.
- Adaptation (R)
After a 5 second delay, 60% of all damage taken during this time will be returned to you as Health.
So, what are my thoughts? During the record of the un-released episode 88 of STORMCAST (coming today I swear), I indicated my desire for another Melee Warrior that was a TRUE Warrior in the vein of Diablo or ETC vs another Bruiser like Sonya or Artanis. It appears my wish may have come true. Dailies Heroes should also be happy that they have a TRUER STAR CRAFT tank meant more for engagements and set ups vs damage and disruption.
His Heroics seem to lean towards choices based on your composition vs simply that one is better than the other one (I’m still looking at you Sylvannas). Isolation can potentially take out the opposing support or a ranged assassin like Li-Ming while Adaptation could be used to offset a Quick Match comp that left you without any heals.
Some fans will be excited that the BURROW ability is not simply an Ape of Anub’Arak’s ability, and is going to be used Defensively vs Offensively. The Combination of DRAG and DARK SWARM should see some excellent confusion while adding damage to the opposing team. However, I would offer my humble prediction that stellar Dehaka players will be known for how well the use his BUSH STALKER ability to disrupt objective captures or pick off a wandering low health hero. Also ESSENCE COLLECTION will be a trait players cannot overlook to mitigate damage.
The Reality is we should get our chance to vet any early predictions or theories relatively soon, perhaps even next week, as Xul has been in the Nexus for a few weeks now. If Blizzard keeps up with their ‘New Hero Every 3 Weeks’ schedule, then Dehaka will be causing havoc very soon! How viable will he be in competitive play? Well, with the first round of Internationals on the Horizon and Heroes of the Dorm finals slated for April, we will find out fairly quickly.
